Yesterday was our first anniversary. A year since we said "I do." Unrelated to marriage this has been one of the most stressful years. Finishing school, studying for the bar - everyone asks how married life is, but in truth, I don't know that I had time to notice! One thing I can say is, with this incredibly stressful year, its nice to have someone by my side, pushing me a long and catching me when I miss a tree branch.

Sunday we had breakfast with my parents at the Beachcomber Cafe, where we had our after wedding brunch last year. Jon asked them if they could believe we'd been married a whole year and my mom replied that it hasn't seemed a whole year. Then Jon asked if they could believe we've been together for 7 1/2 years and my dad said it seems longer. Its true. We've done so much growing up together, its hard to find a memory that doesn't include Jon.

Yesterday we exchanged gifts and went to dinner at the Surf and Sand, where we were married. First Anniversary is traditionally paper, which Jon wasn't happy with because he hates giving gift certificates. He sucked it up and got me a gift certificate for a spa day, which I could really use right now! I got him a personalized night sky print of the night we were married, over Laguna Beach, the town we were married in.

When we got to the Surf and Sand we went to the location of our ceremony and watched the water. Jon felt it seemed so small without our family and friends there. We then went to dinner at the hotel's restaurant and shared some of the excellent food we never got to eat at our wedding. I even had a Blue Laguna, the signature drink from our wedding.

We came home for the top tier of our cake. I had frozen it last year and begun the defrosting process on Friday so it was perfectly ready for us after dinner. It still looked beautiful and Jon was impressed at how good it still tasted. Here's a little side by side comparison of the cake the day of and 1 year later.
